It began in a community rose garden

In 2009, the Morcom Rose Garden in Oakland, California had fallen into disrepair — overgrown weeds and stagnant ponds. The community rallied together to restore it and started a volunteer recognition program to say thank you.

Volunteers who worked over 25 hours received pruning shears; those who gave more than 100 hours earned a t-shirt. Two tech-savvy volunteers, Anca and James, loved the idea and built an online tool to keep track of everyone's hours. That tool became Track it Forward.

Since then, we've grown to serve thousands of nonprofits and schools — and hundreds of thousands of volunteers around the world. We care deeply about the work we do and want to help others make a difference.
